Help to get into work

We offer employment support to all Wythenshawe residents, as well as additional support provided by partnerships with our local, regional and national partners.

Real Opportunities Scheme

Whether you're looking to get into work for the first time, after a long time or if you're trying find a different job, our Real Opportunities Scheme, offered by our employment team, can support you.

The scheme explores several services, including:

  • Creating a CV
  • Completing job applications
  • Interview skills
  • Job searching
  • Training and upskilling
  • Information, advice and guidance
  • Finding self-employment support
  • Work experience placements (for school and college students)
  • Finding an apprenticeship

When you register with us, we'll also send you weekly emails with the latest opportunities you may be interested in. We include opportunities from the local area, with us and our partners. We'll also signpost you to additional services that can help your employment journey, such as financial inclusion and access to travel and interview clothes.

Support to Succeed

Working in partnership with Athena and Working Well (Greater Manchester) Support to Succeed offers FREE one-to-one coaching to people looking to make a difference in their lives. If you are aged 19+ and not part of any current employment programme, get in touch and start your journey today. The range of support includes:

  • Wellbeing and confidence building
  • Managing finances and budgeting
  • Job searching and career planning
  • Skills and volunteering experience
  • One-to-one coaching
  • Sign-posting to specialist services

BeWell

BeWell is here to help you find a way to live and feel well, whatever twists and turns life brings. They can help you get on top of work, family and money worries. Find out more on the BeWell website.

BW3

Businesses Working with Wythenshawe (BW3) is a collaboration of local employers that work together to provide development opportunities.

The main projects are:

  • High School Get Hired - teaches year 9/10 students what is needed to get a job and includes workshops on completing applications, Cvs, presentation skills and job searching. It is finished with a mock interview from a BW3 business member.
  • Numbers At Work - shows primary school students how maths is used practically in the workplace.
  • Get Hired - an employment fair that hundreds of local residents attend to meet employers face to face, apply for jobs, get advice and support. Following these events between 15% - 30% go into work.
  • Aspirational Mentoring Programme - working with people from local schools to help raise aspirations and attainment.
  • Business Mentoring - providing new businesses with the expertise and support needed to flourish.

Employers Recruitment Service

The Employment and Skills team offer a tailored employers recruitment service for socially minded employers looking to recruit Wythenshawe residents with an excellent track record sourcing candidates. Previous employers include Mitie, Bespoke, Metrolink and Costa Coffee, helping identify talented people and reduce their costs by employing the right person for the job.
